One of the most distinctive features inside an M car is the set of M drive mode buttons located on the steering wheel.

Developed by BMW M, these controls allow drivers to pre-set the engine, steering, suspension, and gearbox exactly how they want them. With just one press, the car can switch from a comfortable everyday setup to a far more aggressive performance configuration.

In comfort-oriented settings, the car remains smooth and composed. But switch to a more focused mode and everything sharpens instantly. The throttle becomes more responsive, gear shifts happen faster, and the suspension stiffens to deliver greater control and precision.

Transmission tuning is another area where M cars stand apart. M gearboxes are designed with speed and responsiveness as the priority.

Whether using the automatic system or shifting manually with the steering-wheel paddles, gear changes are fast, precise, and immediate. Paddle shifts allow the driver to take full control, delivering rapid upshifts and aggressive downshifts that keep the engine right in its power band.
